After birding amherst island on january 16 (thanks to several local folks who directed us to the 2 boreal owls, one great gray and one snowy), a short exploration from about 4 - 5PM of the back roads north of the amherst exit off of 401, turned up 8 or 9 additional great gray owls (plus one road killed GGO) on a fairly short stretch of addington county route 6 north of the moscow dump to the intersection with CR 7, and then east on CR 7 for a few km. All but one of the birds were perched on roadside fences and appeared to be heading out to hunt.
