A great number of cars carrying early-birds descended on Lynde C.A., Hall's
Rd. and LakeRidge Rd. in southwest Whitby during the very early hours of
Sunday AM, Jan.16. Before 10a.m. as many as 11 Great Gray Owls had been
spotted. Indeed, one flew at and chased away a Great Horned Owl. I took one
short walk, noting voles scurrying about from their snow-encrusted
hiding-places.
Other birds that were reported to me--adult N.Goshawk, 1 White-throated
Sparrow, several Downy and 2 Hairy woodpeckers, 1 White-breasted Nuthatch
and a Red-breasted Nuthatch, adult N.Shrike, among others.
I saw the "resident" dark-morph Rough-legged Hawk and several Red-tailed
Hawks.

I have not heard anyone report a Barred Owl in the environs for almost a
week.

LakeRidge to Hall's Rd. From the east exit 401 at Brock St. (Whitby), south
to Victoria, west to Hall's Rd.
