An informal survey of waterfowl at LaSalle Park yesterday afternoon:

Mallard- commonest duck close to shore
American Black Duck
Gadwall- 4
Canvasback- flock of about 60, near the eastern islands
Redhead-only a few intermingled with the mallards
Scaup-commonest duck offshore
White-winged Scoter
Common Goldeneye-very common
Bufflehead
Common Merganser
Red-breasted Merganser-common

Non-ducks:
American Coot
Red-necked Grebe-out with the scaup
Mute Swan
Trumpeter Swan >100 all "trumpeting"- very impressive.

LaSalle Park is a good place to see waterfowl close to the shore/dock. A
scope is useful for the scoters and goldeneyes, etc. Close to the shore,
the swans, geese & mallards dominant, but coots, buffleheads, redheads
intermingle.
