Good evening fellow birders.
Just got home from a successful outing that went very well to say the
least. Within a half hour of Frank Pinnila and I arriving at the area of the
Pyrrhuloxia
it made 1 of 2 within 5 minutes feeder visits. Actually the bird was
overhead when
we first arrived but was missed it at that time so if we had of been on the
ball we could have had the bird in under 2 minutes of arriving. We then
drove up to Rodney (about 18km away) and there got the Varied Thrush.
So far so good.
It was then off to Brantford Airport for a try for the Gray Partridge but
no luck there but we did see the Savannah Sparrow found by Don Perks et all
yesterday and a bonus was a male Lapland Longspur at close range that was
still in about 80% breeding plumage. These birds were on Robinson Rd just
west of Greens Rd.
Then a quick run to Rattray Marsh for a Great Gray Owl but no luck there
but in the area that the Great Gray was reported we found a beautiful Barred
Owl that sat and posed for us not 75 feet away as it watched us with it's
dark eyes and then ignored us.

today,

Directions for Pyrrhuloxia (as per Alan Wormington):
From the 401 exit at Interchange #137 and drive south to West Lorne. Keep
going straight (south)
to the town of Eagle on Hwy. 3. Keep going south towards Lake Erie where
you will see a tall
radio tower on the left. Just a bit further there is a small woodlot on the
right with one house
(911 house number 9037). At the back of this house are the feeders.
DIRECTIONS TO RODNEY
Exit Hwy 401 at Exit #129 ( Furnival Rd) and drive south about 4km and your
in Rodney. In Rodney turn right, West on Harper street and drive almost to
the
end at #198. The bird was seen and heard behind and beside the house.
Or from Eagle drive north on Graham Rd to Pioneer Line, turn right (north)
at
Furnival Rd and drive up to Graham Rd.
BRANTFORD AIRPORT - GREENS ROAD
Exit Hwy 403 at Hwy 24 South (9 km west of Hwy 24 North when coming from
the east). Drive south on Hwy 24 to Robinson Rd and turn left (east) on
Robinson (the airfield is on your left) and drive to Greens Rd. Be sure to
watch all the areas along the roads encircling the airfield and at the
derelict aircraft at the entrance to the airport for Gray Partridge.
