Towards and after-dusk owling on Dec.28 netted VeRy MaNy cars (with people in them) along Hall's Rd. and in the parking lot of the Lynde Shores C.A. bird-feeder woods.
Also, following my report of a Great Gray Owl along Beechgrove 2 people immediately went there, reporting back with 2 Great Gray Owls. They could be anywhere in the open fields of lower Beechgrove, which runs south from Lawrence Ave., just west of the eastend viaduct. Now then, the Whitby owls-- Great Horned - top of tree after dusk, to the west of Hall's Rd.; Long-eared Owl--in the spruce trees a short distance down the south pathway, after which he flew out to perch on several roadside posts--indeed, he did some low-to-the ground hunting as well; Short-eared Owl-- possibly--high in a tall tree to the west of the south end of Hall's Rd.; Barred Owl-- in a tree along the easternmost pathway within the Lynde woodlot; GREAT GRAY OWL- along the southermost part of this same trail within Lynde woodlot -- apparently a different individual than the one that was first reported yesterday. Hall's Rd. presently harbours some good raptors-- incl dark-morph Rough-legged, several Red-taileds, 2 Harriers and a Sharp-shinned. Hall's Rd. is 1 block east of LakeRidge Rd., running south from Bayly/Victoria. A half-km. further east of Hall's Rd. is the entry into the parking lot of Lynde woodlot.
