OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE - DEC 26 2004 AT 7:00 PM

This is Chris Lewis reporting.

GREAT GRAY OWLS continue to dominate bird reports from the Ottawa
area. Since the 19th, individuals have been reported from: Van
Kleek Hill, Bourget, Carleton Place, Almonte, Richmond and Kanata.
Up to 7 were counted in the area of Torbolton Ridge Rd., Kinburn
Side Rd. and Kilmaurs Rd. west of Dunrobin on the 25th, with 5
seen here again on the 26th. These birds are actively hunting and
do move around. Single Great Horned Owls were seen in the Carp
and Dunrobin areas today. A Northern Hawk Owl was still in the
hydro field along Trail #5 in Gatineau Park on the 22nd, along
with 3 GREAT GRAY OWLS also still in this location.

Five Snowy Owls were seen on Christmas Day in the Ste-Rose area
east of Casselman in the vicinity of Concessions #19 and #20, with
one very dark bird being the one most regularly seen here.

An adult Northern Goshawk was seen again at the Duck Club feeders
on March Valley Rd. near Riddell Rd. on the 26th., an adult
Peregrine Falcon was at the Ottawa Civic Hospital at the corner of
Carling and Parkdale Ave's. on the 22nd, and again only a few Red-
tailed and Rough-legged Hawks were seen in rural areas during the
week.

Reports of Wild Turkeys that evidently survived Christmas came in
from March Valley Rd. in Kanata as well as Earl Armstrong Rd near
Limebank Rd.

An adult RED-HEADED WOODPECKER was still present in Constance Bay
as of the 26th, and several Northern Shrikes have been noted from
a variety of locations including the Jack Pine Trail feeder, Earl
Armstrong Rd. and the Dunrobin area.

Thank you - Good Birding!
