Hi all!
I was at these lagoons to-day aboout 1 pm - nobody bothered me, but there are new signs and much construction has been done here. Perhaps, someone more local could pursue some form of 'permission to enter' arrangements, as these lagoons have been very productive over the years. Any volunteers? These were the only shorebirds that I saw here to-day. Last winter I saw my first and second Dec. Least S. ever and now another this Dec. I finally got the Stilt at Ridgetown at 4 pm - quite close to the viewing platform - feeding between the pipes. There were 9 Snow Geese - all white form, at Jack Miner's. I also had aTurkey Vulture picking at something in the ditch on the south side of #3 between Leamington and Wheatley, just west of Kopegaron Woods C.A. 1 Horned Grebe at Pelee tip, west side and 1 at Erieau, close to shore behind the restaurant. Incredible #'s of Redhead. Alas no Eurasian Wigeon, Forster's Tern nor Brewer's Blackbird for me to-day. Along the canal north of Pelee NP I had a dozen Brown-headed Cowbirds, 5/6 Red-winged Blackbirds and a single Rusty Blackbird. In the park the birds were more active than last Wed. and I had my first Dec. flock of 8/10 Yellow-rumped Warblers along the Chinquapin trail(sp?). At least 6 Carolina Wrens, but I have not found a Winter Wren yet. Cheers! Maris
