I saw a shrike sitting in a tree near the entrance to the large parking area at Humber Bay East park at about 8:45 a.m this morning. I'd never seen one before. Although I'm not certain, I think it was a Loggerhead.
Humber Bay East park is at the foot of Park Lawn Rd. at Lakeshore Rd. in Toronto. In general, lately. he comes onto the south pathway feeding area around 0930, staying for 1-4 minutes, returning every 10-15 minutes, BUT if you arrive after 1015 you may have a long wait. Who knows--for the past 3 days he has been reappearing throughout the day, but it may be a 60 to 180 minute wait.. A 2 yr.old Bald Eagle made a low-flying appearance today before 10a.m. I will close down the CMRW officially on Tuesday. All results are in the GTRW website--- www.torontobirding.ca/outings.html I saw the Barred Owl in a roadside tree just north of the north pathway entry at 0855--but he took off northward into the woods. I do not know whether anyone saw him later in the day. Exit 401 at Salem Rd.(in Ajax), south to Bayly, east through LakeRidge Rd. to the first street (Hall's Rd.), south to the second roadside parking area--for the G-c Sp. A Sandhill Crane, a Cackling Goose and 4 Snow Geese were reported in mid-AM in the Lynde Creek river system. Below the causeway along Victoria there are hundreds of Canada Geese, stretching down to the lakefront. Every possible lookout on all sides needs to be viewed . Doug Lockrey, Whitby
