Gidday Folks!

Well, it was with great interest today that I read Joanne and Robert Knudsen's
posting from the Sault regarding the wave of Great Gray Owls they seem to be
experiencing. Its been almost a month since the numbers peaked here in the
Hearst area(mid-October). So, assuming some of these are ones that came through
our area, the 350 kilometere straightline distance (as the owls flies :-)
appears to have taken them about 30 days. Or, an average of 10-15 kms./day if
we wanted to get mathmatical about it.

There are still a few around here, and when I have the time to drive the
abandoned farm fields in the area between Hearst and Kapuskasing, I seem to be
able to still find one or two. Yesterday, I was treated to watching one for
about an hour, and having it dive headfirst into the snow 10 feet from where I
was standing, in pursuit of lunch.

I have more pictures of these beautiful birds if anyone is still interested.
Just email me privately and I will gladly share what I have, unless there is a
site I can send them to??

Hearst is a small French-Canadian community of 6000 , 6 hours north of North
Bay and 6 hours east of Thunder Bay, along the northern TransCanada Hwy #11.
