Hi All, A family trip to Niagara Falls was successful in seeing the juvenile Sabine's Gull flying around in the mist below the falls. The bird was first seen at about 12:30pm and I watched it for about 15 minutes, I walked up to the American Falls and back, when I arrived back at the Horseshoe Falls, the bird was still actively flying around in the mist at around 1:45pm. Quite easy to spot with that classic "M" pattern on the back! Didn't do much else birdwise, I did a very quick 10 minute scan above the falls (at the cement breakwall just upriver from Dufferin Islands Nature Area) but couldn't find any Lesser Black-backed Gulls there (I'm sure they're around) although I did have 1 First Year Thayer's Gull. There were probably less than 100 Bonaparte's Gulls below the falls, there were 2 Common Loons down there as well.
Cheers & good birding, Frank Pinilla Toronto, ON DIRECTIONS: QEW to Niagara Falls, follow the signs to "The Falls" and park in one of the many lots around. The fee, if you're close to the falls, is $12 but as mentioned in a note from Gordon Bellerby (I think), there is some parking upriver from the falls by "the barge", it's $3 per hour up there, but I believe Gordon mentioned that it's free during the week. ************* Frank Pinilla Toronto, ON e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
