This afternoon around 3:00 pm I located a Red-throated Loon in winter plumage about 200 meters se of SE headland.
Directions: Col. Samuel Smith Park is located on Lake Ontario just south of Humber College and the entrance road to the park is a southern extension of Kipling Avenue; drive to end of the road and park and take the walkway to headland lookout located nearest the parking lot. Weather: A bright and cool November day with moderate ENE-N winds. Temperatures climbed from 2.0 to 6.0 C. Observations: Early in the day movement was scatterd and the birds were quite low. The peak hour was from 10:00 to 11:00 when 90 Red-tailed were counted. Bird numbers fell dramatically after 1:00 with no apparent change in conditions. The few birds after 1:00 were scattered and very high. The highlight of the day was a second year Goshawk bought to the tower and released by Bob Hall-Brooks. A magnificent bird that left Bob with a small souvenir in the form of a nipped finger. We had 40 Tundra Swans in the morning and a partially albino American Crow (dirty white except for darker tail, wing tips and head). 450 total American Crows. Few passerines with a small movement of Goldfinches. Predictions: Another bright sunny day for tomorrow with light and variable winds in the morning, becoming light southerlies during the day. Warmer, with a high of 10 C. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Olga Klekner () Holiday Beach Migration Observatory information may be found at: http://hbmo.org/
