Things sure can change from one day to the next. On Saturday morning at the tip
of Pelee, there were 81 Great Black-backed Gulls alone amongst the many other
larids there. Yesterday morning (Sunday) there were hardly any gulls,
relatively speaking. However, an adult Thayer's Gull in basic plumage was very
conspicuous amongst the sprinkling of Ring-billeds and Herrings in its company.
Its very round head, wholly dark eye, and distinctly narrow bill made it
exceptionally easy to locate and ID.

There were numerous Pine Siskins and Purple Finches in the park. An adult
Golden Eagle flew over Sturgeon Creek (at the Day's Inn) at about 11:15 a.m. In
the early afternoon, there were at least 2 Snow Buntings at Wheatley Harbour
(thank you, Marianne Reid), but apparently no Red Phalarope.

Feeling extremely insane, I decided to go to Whitby from Burlington before
heading into Toronto this morning. The
Golden-crowned Sparrow appeared at 7:10 a.m. along with fox, white-throated,
song and tree sparrow. It fed for about 5
minutes and then went back into the bush.

Directions:

Take 401 to Salem. Exit Salem and head South to Bayly Road, Turn east on Bayly
and continue past Lakefield Road to
Halls Road. Head down Halls Rd to the second entrance to Cranberry Marsh. Head
up the trail to the picnic table and
this is where the bird has been feeding.

There was snow this morning, not enough to stay but it was cold!!!

Cheers,
Cheryl Edgecombe

Ron Weir provided, for Terry Sprague of Prince Edward County, the following
summary of the KFN annual 24 hour Fall Roundup which took place from
Saturday 1400h 6 Nov. '04 to Sunday 1400h 7 Nov. '04.

The preliminary tally was assembled last night, Nov. 7, too late for any
County records to be included
in your weekly summary. More groups have yet to report, but I think their
reports will not contain any County records so I can give you the highlights
of the finds from Pr. Edw. Pt. for Sunday 7 Nov 04.
