PLEASE NOTE--uncertainty has to prevail--I am obliged to change the possible Gyrfalcon of Nov.5 at Cranberry to an Unidentified Raptor. My apologies.
Sat., Nov.6-- N.Shrike, an E.Meadowlark and 20+ Bonaparte Gulls were the "highlights" at the Cranberry Marsh Raptor Watch. West winds and the abundance of rodents in the lowlands to our east kept the buteos in a hunting mode. Indeed, for 3 hours we had up to 6 Red-taileds and/or Rough-leggeds in the air at once, with most carrying out their marvelous acts of hovering and diving. Indeed, I counted only 2 Turkey Vultures, 3 Red-taileds and 5 Rough-leggeds that eventually snuck through. A fast-moving MERLIN flew through low in front of us, electing to harass a Rough-legged and a TV en route. Doug Lockrey, coordinator CMRW (southwest Whitby)
