Hello Ontbirders
Cold north winds, choppy waves, and fluctuating water levels rising
again made viewing conditions very poor at Andrew Hayden Park/Dick Bell
Park.
However, several diving fowl came into sheltered bays and close to shore,
providing excellent views. Among them were Long-tailed Duck (both females &
adult winter males), both scaup, Ring-necked Duck, Red-breasted Merganser
and White-winged Scoter. Several rafts of Common Goldeneye stayed out in
deeper water.
One Sanderling, and one Greater Yellowlegs linger on the remaining sand bar
of Graham Creek.
Also, the lone Brant lingers with the Ring-billed Gulls around the west pond
of Andrew Hayden Park.
The most interesting sight of this uncomfortable and lacklustre morning was
an adult Northern
Goshawk being mobbed by crows as it flew west over Carling Ave.
Cheerio

>From Highway 417 (The Queensway) take exit 129 (Greenbank & Pinecrest
Roads).
If travelling west, the 0.3 km offramp dumps you right or north onto
Pinecrest
Road. If driving east, a 0.3 km offramp brings you to Pinecrest/Greenbank
Road,
where you will turn left or north onto Pinecrest Road and in 0.4 km join the
westbound offramp traffic. Both groups will now follow Pinecrest Road north
1.0
km from here to Carling Avenue. Turn left or west on Carling and go 2.0 km
to
the turnoff for the parking lot for Andrew Hayden Park on the right or
north.
Turn right into the lot.
