The Pacific Loon seen since Sunday at Fifty Point Conservation Area in Grimsby is still present today as of about 11:00 a.m.. It was located just out from the marina in the company of a Common Loon by Dennis & Gwen Lewington.
Directions to Fifty Point C.A.: Take QEW Niagara to Fifty Road. Head toward the lake and take the North Service Road around to the first road which branches off left (sorry forgot the name). There is a sign here pointing to the Conservation Area. Enter the Fifty Point C.A. (there is a $5.00 charge) and follow signs to the marina or go to viewing points out on the east side of the park. You may also park at the end of Kelson Road and walk down to the beach. The bird has been seen between the marina and the DND property about 150 m out. Be patient, sometimes it disappears. Good luck! The hawk flight was extremely high. 2 Juv. GOLDEN EAGLES stood out clearly. Also 5 RED-SHOULDERED, 11 RED-TAILED and 2 SHARP-SHINNED HAWKS were identified. Many others were too far and high for us to identify. In the cedar woods west of the Pr. Edw. Pt. Banding sheds we flushed a BARRED OWL. We saw about 1500 GR. SCAUP and 700 WHITE-WINGED SCOTERS near the shore of Timber Island. Small flocks of LONG-TAILED DUCKS were arriving. C. LOONS were plentiful and one RED-THROATED LOON was seen. One N. SHRIKE was in a bush near Gavelly Rd. Directions to Prince Edward Point See MapArt Ontario Road Atlas [Page 35, Quad's G&H52 & G53] Bob Sachs, Kingston ON
