Birders

Having birded for many years I was surprised to see a bird at the feeder
that I didn't recognize.  It looked like a small grosbeak, greenish in
color with yellow in the wing.  The bird was feeding on the ground near
some juncos.  It flew up into the nearby cedar tree at which point I could
see the extensive yellow in the tail.  The bill was also quite heavy in
appearance.  I tried to look for leg bands but could not see any as the
legs were partly hidden by foliage.  The bird was seen at about 4:30 in the
afternoon for about  5 minutes.  Unfortunately I had to leave to go to an
appointment so wasn't able to post this any earlier.

My address is 2897 solina rd n. courtice ont.

but the feeder is in the front.

Observation start time: 12:00:00
Observation end time: 15:00:00
Total observation time: 3 hours

Official Counter: Calvin Brennan

Observers: Jeff Schultz

Weather:
Heavy fog persisted today until early afternoon when there was a gradual
dispersal. The rest of the afternoon saw a mix of sun and cloud with
heavier cloud cover moving in during the late afternoon in advance of
tonight’s predicted rain. Winds were light northerly switching a bit more
to the east by mid afternoon.

Observations:
There was about a 2.5-hour window after which the fog cleared and before
the heavier clouds moved in that was very active for birds. The movement
was dominated by Red-tails and TVs but highlighted by three Golden Eagles
that flew by in the space of a few minutes.
