Hello all, At about 0945h this morning Don Shanahan, Maureen Riggs and myself heard a Dickcissel flying south over the Beach 4 region of Presqu'ile. The distinct "electric buzz" flight note was repeated about 6 or 8 times. Don actually saw it as well but at great distance. I think this is the third park record of this bird.
Shorebirds in the morning were mostly "the usual suspects", the highlight being a nice juv. Stilt Sandpiper at Beach 3. I heard later that a juv. Western Sandpiper was reliably seen there also. Most shorebirds are feeding on the fresh algae flats along Beach 3 and 4, plus a number are along Owen Pt. and the offshore shoals and Gull Island. The next most interesting find was an Olive-sided Flycatcher sitting in a large dead Cottonwood about 150 metres S of the marsh boardwalk parking lot. Cheers, Doug McRae Brighton, Ont. Directions: Take the Brighton/Presqu'ile exit from Hwy 401, then follow Cty Rd. 30 south through town. Follow park signs near the traffic lights.
