OFNC BIRD STATUS LINE - JUN 27 2004 AT 5:30 PM

The most interesting reports this past week were of LEAST
BITTERNS. At least 2, possibly 3, were found this morning June 27
on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River, in the Marais aux
Grenouillettes west of Masson. They were seen from both sides of
the road that follows the berm through the marsh beyond the
parking lot. Another LEAST BITTERN was on the Ontario side,
flying into the marsh from the causeway at Shirley's Bay on the
23rd.

An adult Black-crowned Night-Heron, rare in Ottawa at this time of
year, was circling over Cassels Rd. at Mud Lake in Britannia on
the afternoon of the 26th.

Two Upland Sandpipers were again observed along the west side of
Conley Rd. between Fallowfield and Mansfield Rds. on the 23rd and
24th.

The downtown Peregrine Falcon Watch is now well underway.
Yesterday, volunteers were treated to the 1st flights of one of
the youngsters, and the 2nd of the two young females fledged early
this morning. Both appeared to be doing well as of early this
afternoon, and both adults seem to be monitoring their flights
very closely. Volunteers are still needed for the Falcon Watch
during this crucial 1st week. Please contact Falcon Watch
Coordinator Eve Ticknor at 737-7551 or e-mail [EMAIL PROTECTED] or
the schedulers Marie & James Clausen at 234-3002 or e-mail

Thank you - Good Birding!
