Ontbird Subscribers

A malicious message from an outside source pretending to represent
Ontbirds was distributed to the list yesterday. It is a hoax. Please
disregard it.

I am very concerned about preventing future messages or worse from
entering the system and am looking for answers. Technical support for
Ontbirds is also looking into the matter.

Please do not send further comments on this to the list. Contact me
instead at [EMAIL PROTECTED] or [EMAIL PROTECTED] NOT [email protected]

Rest assured that the list will be notified if there is any change in
Ontbirds's status.

In the meantime continue reporting birds.

A quiet hot, sticky week on the homefront. Best bird of the week (in my
opinion) was a male CERULEAN WARBLER found on Monday singing at the treetops
in Shell Park (on Lakeshore between Burloak and Bronte Road). A fairly
uncommon bird for the Hamilton area and a very late migrant.

Down at this end of town at Bronte Marsh a search for the Yellow-crowned
Night Heron did not result in success however birds seen down there on the
lookout were Blue-winged Teal, Black-crowned Night Heron, Eastern Kingbird
and of course the resident Red-necked Grebes. The Grebes appeared to be
rebuilding their nest on the tire after losing the first set of eggs.

A bus trip by the club to Spooky Hollow, one of our sanctuaries outside the
Hamilton Area (SH) resulted in a number of good finds of bird life including
Black-throated Green Warbler, Hooded Warbler, American Redstart, Scarlet
Tanager, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Acadian Flycatcher and Northern Goshawk.
For further information on location of this sanctuary, please email me
privately.

Action in Ancaster this week included Sedge Wren being heard on Powerline
Road just west of Paddy Green Road. Chestnut-sided Warblers seem to like
this area as well. On the path off of Powerline road at the back of the
Dundas Valley Conservation area, Hoolded Warbler, Mourning Warbler,
Rose-breasted Grosbeak and another set of Sedge Wrens were heard singing.

Martins Road area in Ancaster produced Golden-winged Warbler, Blue-winged
Warbler (not a confirmed pure bred since I didn't see it and both nest in
this area) and Alder Flycatcher.

Hopkins Tract off of York Road was significant for Bobolink, Eastern
Meadowlark and Eastern Bluebirds.

Shorebirds are scarce now however last Friday, Semipalmated Sandpiper and
Dunlin were at Tollgate Ponds off of Eastport Drive and a White-rumped
Sandpiper was there last Sunday. A Bonaparte's Gull was seen off of Van
Wagner's Beach today. A Common Loon was seen flying over the lake today
also.

That's all for this week. Sounds like a great weekend. Hope you enjoy your
week.

Good birding,
