2 Stilts were at the Jarvis lagoons this afternoon in the southernmost cell. Originally only the female was present and then the male flew in and landed at the opposite end of the cell where I was standing and gave several loud vocalizations. While I was speaking with another birder with a group from England it disappeared. None of the people there saw it fly out. We wondered if it might have been engaged in nesting duties.
At Townsend Lagoons there were White Rumped Sandpipers and a SB Dowitcher among the commoner shorebirds. Directions are from previous posters: Jarvis Directions: Follow Highway #6 South from Hamilton to Jarvis. Turn left at stoplight at #3 Highway (Talbot Street) and then right (south) at Walpole Street. Follow Walpole past the car wash straight ahead with no turns until the gravel ends. The birds were in the very last cell to the south. Don't climb the fence as you might flush the birds. Park and walk south on the muddy, grassy road and view the birds from your side of the fence. The Townsend sewage lagoons can be found by following the sign for Townsend, which is on #6 highway south of Hagersville, turn left on Keith Richardson Parkway, and continue to the second turning on the right, which is County Rd.14. The Lagoons are just up the road on your right, park well away from the gate, as trucks will be turning in. Remember there are no trespassing signs posted, so be aware of this.
