Alex Mills, author of the Birds of Muskoka and Parry Sound, found a
Louisiana Waterthrush on Thursday morning near Amhic Harbour, south of
Highway 124 west of Sundridge. The bird was singing and he heard it from the
road. He found the bird in a wooded ravine with a small stream, the typical
habitat for this species.

On Saturday morning Alex Mills, Stephen O'Donnell, Kathy and I relocated the
bird. It was singing and flew around us providing some excellent views.

This is the first record for the District of Parry Sound.

Direction:

Take Highway 124 west of Sundridge and turn off into the hamlet of Amhic
Harbour. Take the Amhic Harbour Road along the south side of Amhic Lake.
Once you turn onto the road go 2.4 kilometres and stop. The bird is in the
woods to the north side of the road. It is a couple of hundred feet to the
ravine with the creek. Walk downstream along the creek. This is where the
bird was calling.

You can also take Highway 124 from Parry Sound. Turn off at Ahmic Habour.
