Sunday morning a single female red-bellied woodpecker was well seen at our island west of Pointe au Baril in Georgian Bay. The island is about 40 km. north of the town of Parry Sound. The bird was working on a dead pine tree for 5 minutes. It could not be refound before we left for Toronto later in the day.

He was with a large group of Chipping sparrows . I heard his bzzzzzz ing before I saw him and he called most of the time that I watched him. People who are feeding birds in our area agree with me that this year is unprecedented for bird activity.... hundreds of birds are eating bags of seed of all kinds. In one area under the car port there were over 100 purple finches alone. Cheers..Gert Gert Trudel [EMAIL PROTECTED] Gowganda Ont. 7 hours North of Toronto
