Hello, The Piping Plover found today by John Dubois (finder of the Pink-footed Goose) was seen this afternoon around 2:30pm. The bird was active along the beach just west of the Aylmer Marina. There were quite a few people strolling the beach and moving the bird along. It was last seen moving east towards the breakwater and had not been relocated when I departed at 4:00pm.
The beach is several hundred metres long so it may still be about. I am unfamiliar with the waterfront in this area so I cannot say if there is any other suitable habitat close by. The bird was wearing a leg band. Directions from Ottawa: Take the Champlain Bridge north across the Ottawa River to the Upper Aylmer Road. (Aylmer Road). Head west into Aylmer (officially the city of Gatineau in the new amalgamated city). Aylmer Road becomes Principale. Take Principale west to Front Street. Turn right (north) on Front Street. Front Street to Dervin. Left (west) on Dervin until it comes to a "T" at Raul-Roy. The beach is across the park. Chris Traynor 26 Crofton Road Ottawa, On K2G0N3 613-721-9197
