Congratulations to Nancy and Paul Vigyikan on their discovery of a male Painted Bunting at Tifft Nature Preserve in Buffalo. The bird was foraging on the ground with two White-throated Sparrows on Service Road very near Warbler Walk. They saw the bird in good light around 10:30 for several minutes and the bird was seen by someone else around 11:30. Unfortunately, despite intensive searching by several birders (including Betsy and me for four hours), it was not relocated between 1:00 and 7:00.
If someone does relocate this bird, please post a message as soon as you are able. It's high on several peoples "want list". DIRECTIONS: Tifft Nature Preserve is in south Buffalo off of Route 5. From I-190 in downtown, follow signs to Rt 5 Westbound. Exit at Tifft St. After getting off the ramp, proceed about 3/8 mile to a traffic signal which is Tifft St. Turn left onto Tifft and go under Rt 5, then turn left onto the access road. Tifft N.P. is about 3/8 mile on the right. Park in the lot, walk down the preserve road past the Visitor Center (get directions if they are open) and into the woods. At Service Road, turn right. Warbler Walk is about 250 yards down - it crosses Service Road. Good birding! Willie -------------- Willie D'Anna Betsy Potter Niagara Falls, N.Y. [EMAIL PROTECTED]
