Hello Birders

Mary Schuster and I had a successful late afternoon trip to Carden Plain yesterday (May 10). We easily found several WILSON'S SNIPE and UPLAND SANDPIPERS along Wylie Road, sitting in plain view on the fence posts. A stop at bluebird box 10 yielded a Loggerhead Shrike on the west side of the road, and as we drove up to the bridge at the Sedge Wren Marsh we heard the distant ticking of the YELLOW RAIL (I think it was about 7pm), as well as an AMERICAN BITTERN calling. We did not find any SEDGE WRENS.

Directions:

From Kirkfield, go north on #6, where the road bend to the west, turn right on McNamee Rd. then a quick left onto Wylie Road. The rails can be heard from the small bridge that crosses the marsh.

Good birding!
