Rondeau Daily Report May10/04

Another day with good overall passerines passage. A total of 23 species of
warblers were recorded today with the highlight being a Prairie Warbler at the
South Pt. trail parking lot at 3pm. Two hours earlier a Cerulean Warbler was
heard in the same location. Also along the South Point Trail were a Blue-
winged Warbler, Blackpoll Warbler and female Hooded Warbler. Despite these
less common warblers all being found at the south end of the park the bulk of
warbler sightings continue to be from along Bennett Road and Spicebush Trail,
including the Prothonotary. Interestingly after a good movement of Bay-
breasted Warblers yesterday few have been seen today.

A late female Yellow-bellied Sapsucker was reported today from Tulip Tree Trail
and a Clay-Colored Sparrow from the beach access near the Visitor Centre.

A Prothonotary Warbler was also reported from Wheatley Provincial Park this PM.

The Friends of Rondeau are sponsoring two guided hikes daily until May 23rd.

Hi All,

I haven't seen a report of the following birds, so, even though it's late I
figured I should update. These birds were all seen on Sunday May 9.

In the sightings book at Pt Pelee NP, there was a report of Harris's Sparrow
and I followed up, along with Jeff Skevington, and sure enough within seconds
of stopping and looking at site #211 we saw the bird AND it was hanging out
there despite a family being present on the site within 5m of the bird, this
was at about 5pm.

Also, not mentioned lately, were 15 Willets at the Shorebird Habitat at Hillman
Marsh CA amongst 50+ Short-billed Dowitchers and other more common shorebirds.
Also heard here were 2 Virginia Rail and 4 Sora (while walking around the
dyke), these were heard/seen on Saturday along with the Piping Plover, which
was not seen on Sunday.

Blenheim SL (around 6:30pm) held 3 Wilson's Phalarope and 2 Horned Grebes
amongst other species.

Regards,
Frank Pinilla
Thornhill, ON
