Hi everyone,

Today (May 7) at around 7:00 p.m. I had a breeding plumaged Piping =
Plover feeding along the shoreline on Burlington Beach. The bird was =
approximately 500 metres north of the lift bridge and was moving north =
as it fed (towards Spencer Smith Park). Also, the bird was =
colour-banded, with the right leg having three bands: the top band was =
green, the middle orange, and the lower looked to be a standard steel =
band; all three bands were below the 'knee' joint.

Thanks,

Ian Richards

Directions:

Burlington Beach can be reached by taking the Brant Street exit from the =
Q.E.W. and following it south until it deadends at Lakeshore Road. Turn =
right (west) and proceed to the first set of lights - turning left here =
enters into Spencer Smith Park. Walking south from Spencer Smith Park =
leads to Burlington Beach almost immediately. The beach can also be =
accessed by proceeding to the next set of lights and continuing on =
Lakeshore Road by turning left (south). There are a number of parking =
lots on the left that give access to the beach all the way south to the =
lift bridge.

Just returned from Point Pelee yesterday afternoon (Thursday, May 7)
and, as I was leaving the park decided to try the road indicating the
Onion Fields. Just before I reached the next crossroad, a Great Egret
rose up from the left side ditch. The green lores were clearly visible.
Another car behind me stopped to look but the bird flew off towards the
Point. I didn't see any other reports of this bird so thought I should
report it.
