Happy May! Today Mary Schuster and I had what we agreed was our best day birding in Ontario ever!
We started the day at Thickson's Woods where we saw all the great birds reported in previous posts today. Then we headed to Second Marsh to see the MARBLED GODWIT. We found the Godwit easily. It was directly in front of the viewing platform near the GM parking lot at one point, but it was moving up and down the marsh, sometimes right down to the east end. Upon hearing that an unidentified small white egret had been seen at the east end of the marsh we walked down to investigate. There we found a SNOWY EGRET, complete with 'golden slippers'. This was between 5 and 6pm. After getting good looks at both the godwit and the egret we headed back to Thickson's to tell whoever we could find about the egret. There Margaret Carney told us that a SUMMER TANAGER had been seen near their house in the last half hour. After a short search Mary relocated it just behind their house in the woods. What a great kickoff to my Mayrathon to raise funds for the Meadow at Thickson's! Carol Horner [EMAIL PROTECTED] Toronto, Ontario, Canada
