This evening we had a BCN heron on Mersea Concession 1. We spotted an
American bittern winging down the drainage canal on the west side of the
road and while trying to relocate it came upon the BCNH. We had seen this
bird perched in a tree on April 22nd on the east side of the road. I
attempted some photos but the light was very poor and my camera could
charitably be called inadequate. You can see them at
http://www.radley.ca/wildbirds/28may2004.html .
Other birds of note: A pair of ring-necked pheasant in a field 1 km north
of Wheatley on the east side of Essex Rd1. Great egret in the drainage
canal on Pelee Rd D (seen here often). A very large flock (1500+) tree
swallows with a few barn swallows delighted us by whizzing up and down the
shore within a few feet of us on the first marsh observation deck in Point
Pelee Park. A brown creeper and half a dozen cedar waxwings at the same
location.

Directions: From Tilbury go south on Queen St. which becomes Essex Rd. 1 and
then becomes Erie St. in Wheatley. East on Concession Rd. 4, south on
County Rd. 37. Left (east) at the T. Continue straight ahead onto County
Rd. 1. The BCNH was aprox 1 km from the start of County Rd. 1.
Right onto East Beach Rd. and left at the first stop will bring you to Pelee
Rd. D which terminates 200 meters from the Point Pelee Park gate.

cheers
