Today a few members of the Bruce Birding Club were out birding and came across a Black Headed Gull at Baie Du Dore. The bird was observed in the morning around 8:30 am by the group for 15 minutes as it flew over the bay skimming over the water either fishing or skimming for bugs. It was the size of a Ring billed Gull showing the white outer band on the wings. The head was mostly all black with some white on the front and had a reddish tinge to the bill. One member had also seen the bird walking on the beach earlier and saw the reddish legs whitch he said were darker than a Bonapartes, the only bird we could possibly think that we could mistake it for. The bird in quetsion was much larger than a Bonapartes and as I said earlier approx. the size of the Ring Billed Gulls which were also present Three of the group went back in the afternoon to see if was still present and could not find it. To get to Baie Du Dore take Hwy #21 north from Kincardine or South from Port Elgin to the Village of Underwood. Turn west on Conc. #6 of Bruce and drive all the way down to the waters edge. The bird was seen on the beach and flying over the water north of the Bruce Nuclear Power Plant. Yours in Birding Mike Pickup [EMAIL PROTECTED]
