It was an excellent day for observing Peregrines. The pair at the St. Lawrence Cement Plant in Clarkson (2391 Lakeshore Road) were alternately flying and resting (from about noon through 12:40PM). The male was perched on the blue-coloured catwalk that surrounds the main smokestack. The female sat and preened her feathers atop the superstructure of the easternmost silos and then landed on the northest corner of the roof of the main building (above the nest box).
They watched, but did not give chase to a Turkey Vulture, a Red-tailed Hawk and a Kestrel that flew through their territory. At about 1:20PM, we observed a pair of Peregrines at the Lakeview Generating Station flying between the generating plant and the line of four smokestacks immediately to the south. Both landed on the ladder rungs of the westernmost smokestack. In the marina west of the generating plant were 4 American Coots and 1 Horned Grebe. At Colonel Samuel Smith Park (Kipling and the Lakeshore in Etobicoke), we saw 5 Northern Mockingbirds (three vigorously singing on territory) to the south and west of the parking lot. There were also 14 Horned Grebes in the marina. Good birding. Sandra and Bob Hawkins Etobicoke
