Hi Ontbirders,

Bruce Di Labio and I checked Presqu'ile this morning and found 20
species of waterfowl as well as a few other migrants of interest (plus
Bruce had 2 more spp. yesterday - BW Teal and Wood Duck, as well as 1
Red-necked Grebe off the Customs Dock and a Pied-billed at Calf Pasture)
Most ducks are in Presqu'ile Bay with the largest concentrations being
near the ice edge about mid-way between Calf Pasture and the Presqu'ile
marsh. There was very little offshore from the Picnic areas, but duck
numbers were building off Gull Island, presumably in response to Pompham
Bay opening up. Puddle ducks were still a bit thin, mostly being
scattered among the big scaup flock or around Gull Island.

Selected Highlights:

10 Gb Heron - birds visible on nests in both the eastern (1) and western
woodlot (4)
4 Horned Grebe
7382 G. Scaup
38 Lesser Scaup
1650 Redhead
670 Canvasback
1565 Long-tailed Duck
9 Ww Scoter
7 Am. Coot
1 Killdeer
1 Belted Kingfisher
6 Gc Kinglet - probably migrants; in an area where they didn't winter
and quite active and vocal

Cheers,

Doug and Bruce
