The two adult Greater White-fronted Geese found by John Blaney on East Lake,
Prince Edward County, on March 13 were still there today, Wednesday,
March17. They were seen from the East Lake boat launch, standing on the edge
of the ice among about 150 Canada Geese. There were several pairs of Am.
Wigeon and N.Pintail and over 100 Greater Scaup, no swans. The County got
only a light dusting of snow, much less than areas west of Toronto, but
there was a bone-chilling northeast wind which made scope-viewing less than
pleasant.
Wellington harbour had a flock of 60 very spruce Ring-necked Ducks, scaup,
Redhead, several pairs of Hooded Mergansers, Am.Wigeon and N.Pintail among
other common expected species. Six adult Tundra Swans fed hungrily, and
there were about 12 Mute Swans loafing on the ice among hundreds of Canada
Geese. No Snow Geese were seen today.

To find the East Lake boat launch follow the signs to Sandbanks PP from
Bloomfield. At the intersection of Cty Rds. 12 and 18 continue on 18 rather
than following 12 to the park gate. The entrance to the boat launch is about
1 km farther on your left, a small unmarked sideroad 200m past a blue sign
saying "Outlet". If you cross the bridge over the river you have gone too
far.

Wellington harbour is best viewed from the pier behind the LCBO in
Wellington just off Highway 33 (Loyalist Parkway).
