Hearing reports of pileated woodpeckers and the warmer weather was a cause
to venture further east to Rondeau this Saturday.

Birding was quiet in the wooded areas. Much evidence of pileated along the
Spice Bush Trail but no sightings.

An immature Bald Eagle did a fly over.

Rondeau Bay has a few open patches of water. The dominant bird is the Common
Merganser with is sharing company with Red Breasted Merganser, Canvasback,
Common Goldeneye and Buffleheads. Near the shore of the pier lookout we
spotted our first ever American Wigeon !!! Also present was a pair of
Mallards and Gadwalls.

A flock of 24 Tundra Swans did a fly over while we scanned for ducks on the
pier.

A quiet day overall but the Wigeon was a big surprise find at days end.

The habitat at Rondeau seems great for warblers and we are sure to be going
again as the spring unfolds.
