Calling all raptor enthusiasts!
At Bird Studies Canada we are getting ready for the 2004 Red-Shouldered
Hawk and Spring Woodpecker Survey, and are looking for eager volunteers to
fill available routes. This survey has been tracking Red-Shouldered hawk
populations since 1990 and the data will be incorporated into the Ontario
Breeding Bird Atlas. The survey is completed during a single morning
between 17 April and 7 May and takes approximately 3 hours to complete. A
broadcast tape or CD containing pre-recorded Red-Shouldered hawk calls and
timed listening periods is played at fixed intervals along the roadside.
During each listening period, the surveyor records all species of raptors
and woodpeckers seen and heard.
I have listed the available routes below, as well as their nearest town.
There is also an exciting opportunity to help scout a number of route
locations which have never been run (listed under "new" routes). If you are
interested in surveying, please contact Susan Debreceni by phone or email

number.
Routes will be filled on a first come first serve basis. If we are unable
to match you with a route, we will gladly place you on our waiting list. We
