Hi all!
Yesterday, I tried in vain to find the birds reported north of
Whitby some 3 weeks ago, but only found 1 Northern Shrike on the south side
of Concession 7, between Sideroads 12 and 14. I decided to drive north up
Hwy#12 and around Lake Simcoe. Following the lake shore and just north of
Beaverton I saw 22 Wild Turkey.
When I got to Dalrymple Rd. on a whim I turned east and followed
it. At McCrackin Rd. I finally found this good sized flock - they were
breaking into smaller groups - feeding on juniper berries, very actively -
I tried to get into position for some video, but could only get tape of them
in the high treetops.
I ran into another N.Shrike, just north of the village of Victoria
Road.
Typical for me - I get 2 winter birds, 2/3 days after close of
winter listing(my final # was 151) . On Tuesday - I got the Barrow's
Goldeneye at LaSalle(thx.Bob and Glenda for posting and Tom C. and Tom T.
for use of their scopes).
Sorry!, but I cannot give better directions than these, as I was
basically just cruising/wandering these back roads and only took note of the
actual crossroads.
Cheers! Maris
