I have had several reports about the Port Weller Tufted Duck for Friday, February 6th. The two Flint, Michigan birders stayed overnight and saw the bird at 0815h on Friday at the north end of Lock 1. As well, Terry Yonker advised the he and two other Buffalo birders observed the bird there on Friday between 0830 and 0930. The bird was not seen after this time despite the efforts of many birders.
Today, February the 7th, local birders made a number of trips to the area and the bird was a no show. I was there twice and spoke with half a dozen birders from out of town who also had failed to find the bird. The small raft of scaup at the mouth of the Welland Canal have not been seen since noon on Friday. We will again search early tomorrow morning (Sunday, the 8th) and will report on ONTBIRDS if the gull re-appears. Kayo Kayo Roy 13 Kinsman Court Fonthill, ON.
