The male Tufted Duck (found around 1:50 pm this afternoon), was still in the small piece of open water in the Welland Canal directly behind (north) of Lock 1 at 4:50 pm.
Take the QEW to Niagara Street exit in St Catharines (exit 48), and go north on Niagara St to the end where it T's with Lakeshore Road. Turn right and go to the lights at Lock 1 (one short block). DO NOT CROSS THE BRIDGE, but rather turn left onto Government Road (also known as Bunting Road) and proceed north about 150-200 yards. Park well to the right to allow other traffic to pass by. from here, look back for the duck in the open water directly behind the Lake Ontario side of the lock. Good luck.
