AMHERST I. [page 36, quads E54 & 55]

Alex Scott reported on Jan. 18: "Karen and I did a quick check of the Owl
Woods today. There were at least 6 SAW-WHET OWLS, 5 of which were in the
Pine Woods. There was also a single roost of LONG-EARED OWLS with at least
20 of the owls occupying half a dozen trees Yesterday there was an adult
BALD EAGLE on the ice opposite the Hydro Plant to the west of Bath."

WOLFE ISLAND [page 36, quad E57]

On Jan. 19, I birded Wolfe I. from the 4th Line to the 13th Line. Highlights
were: 1 SHORT-EARED OWL, 1 SNOWY OWL, about 600 HORNED LARK, 400 SNOW
BUNTING, 40 LAPLAND LONGSPUR and 200 COM. REDPOLL, 20 AM. TREE SPARROW.
There was NO open water around the Island, NO SWANS. My only waterfowl were
7 MALLARDS, 4 COM. MERGANSER and 50 COM. GOLDENEYE in open leads just after
the ferry left the Kingston dock.

Directions: Wolfe I. is across the St.. Lawrence River from Kingston and it
is reached by a free car ferry which leaves from the Kingston terminal on
Ontario St.. at the bottom of Barrack St.. and lands at Marysville on Wolfe
I..

OTHER SIGHTINGS

Ken Kingdon reported: "At 2 p.m. Sat., Jan. 17, 2004 during XC skiing
through Lemoine Point C.A., a BARRED OWL was seen from a distance of 20m. It
was quite active and repeatedly flew short distances as it foraged for food
through mature woodland."
DIRECTIONS: Lemoine Point C.A. is on the west side of Kingston at Collins
Bay.

On Sunday morning January 18/04, Erwin and Alex Batalla and Bruce Ripley
observed 1 RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER and 30 COMMON REDPOLL at the Batalla bird
feeder at 1922 Spooner Road. At the Sydenham Landfill Site off Wilmer Road
we observed 3 BALD EAGLE, 20 WILD TURKEY, 1 EVENING GROSBEAK and many COMMON
RAVEN.



At Cartwright Point on Jan. 19, the EASTERN SCREECH OWL was basking in the
entry to the Owl Box across the road from #3 Woodpecker Lane. Yesterday the
CAROLINA WREN was at the feeders at #14 The Point Rd.

Faith Avis had a RED-BELLIED WOODPECKER at her feeder on Oriole Lane in
Cartwright Point east on Jan. 19.
