Happy New Year to all.
Having just read Dean Ware's post of 2 Common Yellowthroats at Point
Pelee, I thought I should mention that I found 2 Marsh Wrens the past few
days, another sign that the balmy weather of late is keeping some birds
lingering. My first Marsh Wren was on New Year's Day at Pelee, just inside
the north dike at the far east end where Mersea Rd 19 meets Concession Road
E. Yesterday, January 3, I found another Marsh Wren in LaSalle. This bird
was in a small patch of cattails along the Detroit River, accessed from Old
Front Road just west of Morton. While "real" winter weather is about to hit
us, I think we can expect to find more interesting marsh birds if we take
the time to look for them. A Least Bittern was found recently last month in
Michigan; go figure.
