My 10 year old daughter and I drove to Almonte area on a beautiful snuny day where the Northern Hawk Owl has been seen recently. Upon arrival, around noon, we immediately saw the owl perched up on one of the few bare trees to the right of the large barn seen from #283 Old Union Hall Road. It flew from one tree to another and stayed there some 15 minutes or so, then flew farther behind the buildings and it didn't return for the next 30 minutes we were there. Locals (2 people) stated the owl is usually seen early in the morning close to the road on some bare trees about 100-150 metres past the farm driveway entrance, on the left where it opens up.
We left for the Dunrobin area where the wild turkeys had been spotted off of Berry Side Road. Driving northward on Berry just past the farm house on the left, almost at top of the hill, we counted 29 wild turkeys at the far end of the field where the cows roam (looking westward). Directions: Northern Hawk Owl (Old Union Hall Road). From Ottawa, take Hwy. 417 west, exit #155. Turn left and follow March Road past Almonte and County Road 29, then turn right on Ramsay Con 8, left on Camelon Road, then right on Ramsay Con. 7B, then left on Old Union Hall Road and look for #283 on the left. Wild Turkeys (Berry Side Road). From Ottawa, take Hwy. 417 west and exit at #138, Eagleson Road. Turn Right and follow the March Road to the Dunrobin Road exit. Follow Dunrobin Road to Kerwin (formerly River Rd). Turn right on Kirwin and follow to the Berry Side Road. Turn right on Berry Side Road. Good birding!
