This afternoon we found a Northern Hawk-Owl at the Almonte Lagoons in the trees near the road. We presume this is the same bird that was first seen December 8th on Clayton Road and was apparently seen twice this week on Old Union Hall Road. The lagoons are in the circle for the Carleton Place CBC which takes place December 27, so here's hoping......
Directions to Almonte Lagoons: From Almonte take Lanark County Road 16 west. The lagoons are about 1/2 a km west of the intersection with County Road 29. Park at the entrance to the lagoons, off the road which is quite busy.
