The Gray Flycatcher, was seen on and off at least until 2 p.m. today. It was feeding among the cattails and along the creek, usually quite low. It was very active, during my period of observation, never remaining perched for more than a few seconds.
The Least Sandpiper was not found in the Taquanya Conservation Area. The mouth of the creek at the culvert was frozen and there was no exposed mud there. The creek was walked from the culvert under Decewsville Rd to where it meets the lake with no success. Directions for Gray Flycatcher: Follow highway 3 west of Cayuga crossing the Grand River. Turn north (right) on River Road. Follow a few kilometers to Indiana Road W. Turn left (west, the only choice) onto Indiana Road W. Drive 1.9 km and pull off on the north side of the road. Walk across the field to the north (this is private property - it would be nice to contact the owner - I'm afraid we didn't) about 100 m. until you reach a line of trees. Cross carefully the barbed wire fence. Beyond the fence is the creek. Directions for Least Sandpiper: Take highway 3 west of Cayuga, turn north (right) on Decewsville Road. Proceed through the small town to a cattail wetland. A stream crosses under the road at two locations and flows into a reservoir.
