Yesterday's snow fall brought a large flock of blackbirds to my feeders.
Included was
1 rusty blackbird, 10+ redwings, 10+ grackles & 100+ cowbirds
The flock has returned today but I have been unable to pick out the rusty yet
as they are very
jumpy, continually rising into the trees. A sharp-shinned hawk grabbed a bird
from under the
feeder early this morning so they are very wary.
Hopefully this flock will continue its migration as I really don't want to be
feeding cowbirds all
winter.
There was also a juvenile northern shrike in the yard yesterday. I see this
bird frequently but
have never seen him catch anything although he does give chase.
