Hello, The Black-headed Grosbeak northwest of Ottawa has been present most of the day today. The bird comes to a feeder outside the family room window. The owners Bob and Iris Jurmain are happily receiving visitors and they have a guest book for visitors to sign. However the situation is such that the bird cannot be viewed from anywhere but inside the house. So anyone wishing to visit must call ahead. Leave a message if you have to. Mr. Jurmain is quite happy to have birders but please use your discretion as Mr. Jurmain works from his home during the weekdays. Mr. Jurmain suggests that the weekend is the best time to visit and there are no visits allowed if he is not home.
Directions from Ottawa: Take the 417 west and exit at #44 west to Almonte. Take main street in Almonte west to #29. Turn right (north) on #29 and drive 10 kilometres and turn left (west) on Cedar Hill road. Drive 4 kilometres west until you come to a T-junction and turn right (north) on concession #6. Take the first left which is Klondike road. The house is #305. Again, please call before heading out. For Ottawa birders it has been confirmed this bird is out of the 50km circle. Thanks to Bob and Iris Jurmain for outstanding hospitality.
