Highlights of reports received November 6 through November
13 from the Niagara Frontier Region include CALIFORNIA GULL,
  ICELAND GULL and GYRFALCON.

November 9, for the 12th consecutive year, a CALIFORNIA GULL
was found on the lower Niagara River at the power plants.
The gull, as usual, was seen from the Beck overlook in
Ontario. November 8, at the power plants, the first ICELAND
GULL of the season plus 2 L. BLACK-B. GULLS. LITTLE GULLS
were noted this week at the Whirlpool and at Queenston,
Ontario, and 1315 BONAPARTE'S GULLS were counted passing
Niagara-on-the-Lake, as they move out to Lake Ontario for
the night. At Niagara Falls, 2 more L. BLACK-B. GULLS and a
BRANT has been reported in the gorge and above the falls.

The recent high winds and winter weather will likely deposit
more gulls into the river corridor, just in time for the
next BOS field trip. Sunday, November 16, there will be a
joint BOS field trip with Rochester's Genesee Ornithological
Society, to the Niagara River for gulls and waterfowl. Meet
at 9 AM at Fort Niagara State Park, in the parking lot just
outside the old fort. This is usually a full day trip
covering both the New York and Ontario sides of the river.
Visitors are always welcome on BOS trips.

November 8, south of St. Catherines, Ontario, a gray morph
GYRFALCON was observed carrying prey across a field on
Merrittville Road, just north of Beaverdams Road.

Waterbirds along the Lake Ontario shore at Olcott and Barker
on November 9, included RED-THROATED LOON, COMMON LOON,
HORNED GREBE, RED-NECKED GREBE, WHITE-WINGED SCOTER, LONG-
TAILED DUCK, BUFFLEHEAD, COMMON GOLDENEYE and RED-BR.
MERGANSER, plus DUNLIN. At Barker Park, a CAROLINA WREN and
throughout the lake plains, 4 NORTHERN HARRIERS. Small
flocks of SNOW BUNTINGS have been reported all along the
  Lake Ontario shoreline.

Also November 9, at the Batavia Waste Water Plant, at least
16 waterfowl and four shorebird species. Highlights were 2
EARED GREBES, TUNDRA SWAN, 350 NORTHERN SHOVELERS, 5 LONG-
TAILED DUCKS, 835 RUDDY DUCKS, 2 BLACK-BELLIED PLOVERS,
  AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVER and 38 DUNLIN.

At Sinking Ponds in East Aurora, the monthly census on
November 8 reported 32 species including BROWN CREEPER,
CAROLINA WREN, 10 EASTERN BLUEBIRDS, AMER. TREE SPARROW and
RUSTY BLACKBIRD. On November 12 at Sinking Ponds, 5 of the
RICHARDSON'S-type CANADA GEESE. And at the Iroquois Refuge
this week, two more RICHARDSON'S GEESE were noted at Ring-
  necked Marsh.

Dial-a-Bird will be updated Thursday evening, November 20.
Please call in your sightings by noon Thursday. You may
report sightings after the tone. Thank you for calling and
  reporting to Dial-a-Bird.
