Tddoy I went birding with Lea Haist and Gordon Syms from Forty Mile Creek Park in Grimsby to Fifty Conservation Area to Green Road in Stoney Creek. The highlights were: - a Yellow-bellied Sapsucker and dozens of Cedar Waxwings in Grimsby, - half a dozen Buffleheads in Lake Ont. at the end of the Conservation area,
- off Green Road there were hundreds of birds. The closer group could be scoped well, and there were dozens of Longtails, a few Common Goldeneye, and a few female Common Mergansers and Greater Scaup females and one male Surf Scoter. Further out there were hundreds of other waterfowl but we couldn't determine what they were. For Forty Mile Creek Park take QEW to Christie, go north a couple of blocks to Olive, turn right at the Tim Hortons and go 3 blocks, then north on Elizabeth to the end of the road where there is a parking lot on the right. The trail into the park follows along the creek - look for the Blue markings on the trees. For Fifty Conservation Area go back along the north service road to Fifty Side Road, go north to the North Service Rd. then back to the Conservation area. Normally there is an entrance fee but we said we only wanted to drive around, and were allowed to go in to see what we could see - besides the buffleheads, there were many Juncos down near the marina area. For Green Rd. continue eastbound along North Service Rd. past Fruitland Rd. - (if coming from the east, take the Centennial Rd exit and go north to the North Service Rd and turn right then look for the Green Rd. side - there are some large red brick condos on that street.
