Those who ingnored the cool temperatures, and winds from the wrong direction at High Park today were handsomely rewarded.
Just when all began to think the day was a wash out for birds of prey, we got over a hundred red tails, and several Rough Legged Hawks after 1 pm. We later found a dark phase Gyrfalcon flying to the north. The bird lingered heading towards us, then reversed its course to assault a Golden Eagle , stooping and harassing the larger bird in mid air for some considerable time. Finally the Gyrfalcon flew south towards Lake Ontario, and may still be in the vicinity. Total viewing time was about 8 minutes. All in all, a good day for both numbers, and exciting species.
