This morning (7:00-8:00, October 31) a minimum of 81 COMMON LOONS were
feeding at the head of Kempenfelt Bay in Barrie. This is the second or
third fall that large numbers of loons have congregated there.

The birds are easily viewed from Barrie's several waterfront park areas.
Some are as close as 5 meters away (near the Spirit Catcher sculpture near
the downtown core). Where they are depends somewhat on where the fishing
boats are concentrated, so to get the best views you may need to move along
the shoreline a bit.

Lots of other waterbirds as well (MALLARD, CANADA GEESE, RING-BILLED,
HERRING, GREAT BLACK-BACKED GULLS).

To get to Barrie's waterfront: From Highway 400 north, take the Essa Road
exit. Turn right at the bottom of the ramp (east) and follow Essa Road to
Tiffin Road. Turn right onto Tiffin for a block and you'll see the bay
ahead. Turn left onto Lakeshore. There are several parking lots along this
road on the right, any of which access the lake shore trail connecting the
various parks and parkettes.
