Many observers came to the Cranberry Marsh RW in southwest Whitby hoping to see a flight of migrant raptors that had been waiting "downeast" over the past few days-- not to be, although everyone had great looks at a) our 6-day resident 1st yr. BALD EAGLE, b) an immature or young female ROUGH-LEGGED HAWK that entertained us for several hours. The migrating raptors were 24-- 1 N.Harrier, 10 Sharp-shinned, 9 Red-tailed, 2 Rough-legged, 2 Kestrel
Around the platform during the AM were 5 E.Meadowlarks, 3 Pine Siskins, Wilson's Snipe, Fox Sparrow, Cedar Waxwings, and 5 other sparrow species, juncos et al. Around noon we had a wonderful look at a 2nd winter LITTLE GULL-- flew across the wetlands and then out beyond the willow barrier beach.
